Light Playing with Shadows: Emi by Flos
The new collection of lamps designed by Erwan Bouroullec combines compact dimensions and anti-reflection optics. Designed for Flos for domestic and contract environments, “Emi represents a new approach to lighting that combines various invisible light sources to create a unique experience: light that comes from the shadows,” says the designer.
Emi offers an innovative method of lighting that combines hidden light sources to generate a paradoxical effect: light appearing to originate from darkness. In fact, this lamp combines a dark elongated opaque body with a powerful invisible light source that makes both the ceiling and the floor shine. It’s a sort of “shady shape that produces light,” continues Bouroullec.
Specific modules have been developed to give the lamp its characteristic triangular shape, while creating a harmonious, visually balanced structure that replaces traditional rectangular geometry. The design plays with perspective in a unique way and saves on materials.
In the living room, Emi can act as diffused ambient lighting or as a focal point to create a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere in both cases.
