Hana-arashi: the Art of Reuse in the New Collection by Paola Lenti and Nendo

Paola Lenti and the Japanese designer studio Nendo present the second chapter of the Mottainai project, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of "non-waste", through the reuse of materials. This is where the Hana-arashi collection comes from. This collection is a line of furniture in recycled fabric made with a lively but sober design. Oki Sato, founder of the Nendo studio, is known for always having created lamps, seats, tables and baskets using textile waste from production processes.

"We wanted to explore a different design language," says Paola Lenti. "Nendo has breathed new life into the Maris scraps, a fabric whose structure influenced the shape of the products. This is how the Hana-arashi collection was born, and I find it to be very Japanese." Nendo, like a "Master of Plasticine clay", has shaped unique pieces with curved lines, folding and wrapping them to create aesthetically valuable and resistant products.

Hana-arashi, which combines the Japanese terms for "flowers" and "strong wind", evokes the image of cherry petals dancing in the wind. This image is a symbol of lightness, movement and colour, and it is in line with the Mottainai philosophy.
