Pedestal Collection by Saarinen: Knoll's Iconic Functionality
Since the late 1940s, Eero Saarinen designed many of the most iconic and modern products for Knoll, including the Tulip Chairs, the Pedestal Tables, the Womb Chair, and the 70 Series Executive Seating Collection. His projects used modern materials and graceful, forward-leaning lines which help establish the Knoll brand identity during its formative years.
The Tulip chairs and round table from the 1957 Pedestal collection show how Eero Saarinen solved the problem of an “ugly, confused, disquieted world” through tables and chairs. He wanted to reorganize domestic space in a clean, functional and long-lasting way. Form follows function. This system was created to offer more leg room and less visual impact. It’s perfect for a studio or a dining room.
The table appears with the base in cast aluminium, heavy and moulded with a black or white painted finish. The KnollStudio logo and Saarinen’s were stamped into the underside of the table top.
